The NJSIA Conference is one of the leading events for New Jersey’s self-insured community. Dr. Vinay Chopra and Dr. Matthew Griffin Present on Concussion Care
Our favorite moment was the presentation by Dr. Vinay Chopra and Dr. Matthew Griffin on concussion care within the workers’ compensation system. Their lecture focused on an injury that is frequently misunderstood but carries a major impact on a worker’s health, recovery, and eventual return to work.
Because concussions resulting from workplace incidents require careful evaluation and thoughtful treatment, Dr. Chopra and Dr. Griffin highlighted the vital intersection of healthcare and law. Their insights shed light on how we can better support and care for our patients when navigating these complex situations.
About Dr Vinay Chopra
Vinay Chopra, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained sports medicine physician at Genesis Orthopaedic and Spine.
Dr. Chopra specializes in sports medicine, regenerative medicine, orthopedic injuries, and concussion. He is also a credentialed ImPACT consultant and listed as a preferred provider on the Concussion Legacy Foundation website. Dr. Chopra is recognized as a Top Doctor by NJ Monthly Magazine for 2024, 2022, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, a Top Doctor by NJ TopDocs for 2021, and also 2019 Physician of the Year by the State of NJ.
Dr. Chopra earned his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He then earned his medical degree with honors from Ross University School of Medicine before completing his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Dr. Chopra’s experience with athletes also includes serving as team physician for multiple high schools and colleges, previously holding a medical director position for a minor league system of the Philadelphia Phillies, and currently serving as ringside physician certified in combat medicine for numerous mixed martial arts events including UFC, Cage Fury Fighting Championships, and Ring of Combat, and various boxing events.
About Dr. Matthew Griffin
Matthew Griffin, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician at Genesis Orthopedic and Spine in Westfield and West Orange, New Jersey. Dr. Griffin sees patients for sports medicine, non-surgical orthopedic injuries, and regenerative treatments and injections, such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma), BMAC, fat aspirate (Lipogems®, Mini-TC).
Dr. Griffin treats a range of conditions, including sprains, fractures, arthritis, joint disorders, and sports injuries.
He also specializes in concussion management and protocols and has obtained his ImPACT® certification (neuropsychological testing for concussion management).
Dr. Griffin earned his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, before completing his medical degree at St. Christopher Iba Mar Diop School of Medicine in Luton, England. He completed an internal medicine residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
