What is TenJet?
TenJet is a minimally invasive tenotomy (tendon-cutting) system that the team at Genesis Orthopaedic and Spine uses to remove damaged tissues from within your joints. The streamlined procedure allows you to remove as much damaged tissue as possible while preserving the healthy surrounding tissues.
The device includes a needle-like applicator with two passages that your physician carefully inserts near your injury. One passage releases a steady stream of a saline solution that removes diseased areas of your tendons. The other suctions the dislodged, damaged tissue out of the joint.
Your doctor may add an infusion of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to your procedure. PRP is a substance derived from your blood that contains healing factors and platelets that work to speed up your injury’s healing.
What does TenJet treat?
TenJet is designed to treat chronic tendon pain; specifically, it improves your mobility and reduces pain from tendinosis or chronic tendinitis.
Your tendons are durable bands of connective tissue that connect your bones to your muscles and aid in your movement. With repeated use, you might develop tendinitis.
Tendinitis is tendon inflammation that typically goes away on its own with some rest. Tendinosis occurs when your tendons don’t have time to heal and begin to deteriorate as a result.
You can use TenJet to treat tendinosis in your:
- Shoulders
- Elbows
- Knees
- Hips
- Ankles
- The bottom of your foot
Removing the tissue damage from tendinosis alleviates pain and often restores your joint’s mobility.
What can I expect at a TenJet treatment appointment?
Your TenJet appointment is uncomplicated and only takes about 15 minutes. Your physician at Genesis Orthopaedic and Spine use ultrasound to view the tissues in your injured joint and identify areas of tissue damage. Then, they inject a local anesthetic to numb the area. You might feel a pinch as this happens, but you won’t feel pain as the TenJet needle device enters your skin and flushes away the dead tissue.
Following the treatment, you might feel some soreness in the area as the anesthetic wears off. Within three months of treatment, you notice that you don’t feel pain in your tendons anymore and you can use your joint freely. Your physician gives you instructions to follow to ensure a swift recovery after the procedure.
