What is tendinitis?

Your tendons are bands of thick connective tissue that secure muscle tissue to bone. Tendinitis is inflammation of that tissue, and it can be incredibly painful.

Many cases of tendinitis occur due to small, repetitive impacts on a tendon. A more sudden traumatic injury can also lead to tendinitis. Some examples of actions that can cause tendinitis include:

  • Repetitive throwing or pitching
  • Swinging a golf club
  • Participating in skiing
  • Shoveling dirt or snow
  • Raking leaves or grass
  • Carpentry
  • Gardening
  • Painting
  • Household cleaning

Even men and women who are healthy and fit can suffer from tendinitis. In fact, many professional athletes encounter the condition multiple times throughout their careers.

How can TenJetⓇ improve my tendinitis?

TenJet is a treatment device that improves chronic tendon pain. Also called TenJet tenotomy, this therapy makes precise cuts in the targeted tendon to reduce pain and improve function.

The TenJet system uses a highly pressurized stream of saline to remove damaged tendon tissue while sparing the healthy tissue in the immediate area. Treatments take place during a roughly 15-minute minimally invasive procedure.

TenJet treatments are not painful, although you may feel some discomfort as your Genesis Orthopaedic and Spine practitioner injects the numbing medication at the beginning of the procedure. Afterward, a degree of soreness is expected. You notice a reduction in tendon pain within three months.

Is platelet-rich plasma a good treatment option for tendinitis?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, can be a very effective treatment for tendinitis. This approach uses a powerful concentration of your body’s growth factors to promote healing in damaged tendons.

Tendons and other connective tissues don’t have a strong blood supply, which is part of why they are so slow to heal. Introducing PRP into damaged tendon tissue stimulates the healing process without the need for invasive procedures or long term reliance on pharmaceuticals for pain relief.

Cortisone injections are also available for entities. If you suspect your joint pain is caused by tendinitis, or to find out which options are right for you, schedule a diagnostic exam to find answers and explore solutions.
